Herbed Garlic Rolls

Makes: 12 Rolls Oven: 180 °C / 350 °F
Preparation Time: 1 hour 10 minutes  Baking Time: 25 – 30 minutes

Ingredients

500 g Flour
7 ml Salt (1 tsp)
5 ml Sugar (1 tsp)
30 g Margarine
10 g Anchor Instant Yeast (1 packet)

Filling

60 g Margarine
20 ml Garlic
5 ml Mixed herbs

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together. Add the margarine and rub it into the flour using your fingertips. Add the Anchor Instant Yeast and mix well.
  2. Gradually add the lukewarm water to the flour mixture to form a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic – about 10 minutes.
  3. Place the dough back onto a lightly floured surface, cover with greased plastic wrap, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Knock down the dough and roll it out into a 20 cm square.
  5. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  6. Roll the dough up tightly into a long strand, like a Swiss roll. Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 12 equal slices – using two fingers as a guide for thickness.
  7. Arrange the slices slightly apart on a greased baking tray.
  8. Cover with greased plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size – about 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C / 350 °F for 20 – 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
